We delivered a website to The Royal Shakespeare Company that provides public online access to the archives of the RSC's Collection for the first time, as part of the NOF Digitise project. The website shows off the collection in a number of exhibitions, and allows ad-hoc searching of the image archive based on the meta-data associated with each archived image. The archive contains photographs and images of costumes, props and paintings that span over centuries of productions of Shakespeare's plays.
The website uses Jakarta Tomcat to integrate an XML Content Management System and the image-archiving software. Members of the RSC staff have complete control over the content of the website: they can modify and add new exhibitions simply and easily, without needing any technical knowledge (e.g. of HTML).
